The traditional avatar kicks in as soon as the October month hits. There is something about the latter months of the year that just spells festivities. Diwali, dussehra, bhai dooj, etc and a huge pileup of wedding invitations compels us to gravitate towards and experiment more with our ethnic alter ego. I have been doing the same and this month, I have shot mostly indianwear and honestly, it's been a lot of fun! Even though I have no idea how to wrap a saree and drape it gracefully, I sure as hell can twirl around in them! Sarees are a fun way of exploring my roots and my heritage. Once you don this 5 meter long fabric, an automated grace can be noticed in your posture, the way you walk and conduct yourself. It is a nice feeling to get in touch with my feminine side which is usually not so prominent :P

This gorgeous tie-dye saree is by Ridhi Bansal and originally comes with a black blouse but I wanted it to have some color so I decided to style it with a different blouse. The red color looks much more festive, bright and paints a happy picture. Perfect attire to flaunt on the Diwali night, don't you think so?

Living in Print

We all know this printed style is overdone. Every other designer is buying similar prints in different colors and making skirts, palazzo pants, crop tops, anarkali, etc using this print. But let's face it, it looks amazing and every girl wants to have a piece of this big trend. When I went to meet Ridhi Bansal and I spotted this piece hanging on the racks, I paid no heed to it initially and moved on until Ridhi took it out and showed me the crop top that went with it. The palazzo pants are something basic that maybe you can find or get stitched easily but the crop top was the star of this outfit and really stood out to me. The mesh panels, the back cutout and the intricate thread and beadwork bespoke hard work and creativity sewn in together. The color palette is also something I don't find repeatedly in indianwear garments and I knew I had to try it on and share the outfit with you guys.

This outfit would be perfect for an outdoor Sangeet or Mehandi function. You can get it customised in a color and print of your choice! Visit Ridhi Bansal's Facebook Page here: RIDHI BANSAL

5 things we loved at the Matsya Private Preview!

Seldom do we come across an event which spells class and elegance and is still fun, so much so that we spent over 2 hrs chatting away and downing glasses of red wine along with fine cheese and hors d'oeuvres. The idea of holding a private preview to display the new collection by a designer in the presidential suite of a five star hotel is brilliant. Not only it is a perfect laid back location where people can be at ease and sift through the collection without being distracted by loud music or too many waiters roaming around. The creative minds behind Matsya came up with this impeccable event to showcase their new AW15 collection 'Princess of the Night' and completely won us over! Read on to know 5 things we absolutely loved at the event apart from the location choice:

1. An Incredible Wine and Cheese Assortment

IMG_3209

A welcoming sight of a table topped with finest cheese, a wide variety of amuse-bouches and fine wines greeted us and all of a sudden, our 1 hour tiresome journey to The Leela, Gurgaon started to become a distant memory. We spent the later half of our visit standing by the table, devouring the eatables, not even sorry!

2. Display

IMG_3195 IMG_3194 IMG_3177

Yes, the later half was spent by the table but the first half was undoubtedly had us stunned and dazed by the beautiful display of even more beautiful craftsmanship. We loved how every corner and space was used diligently in the presidential suite. The garments were laid out on the bed, settee, lobby and even in the walk-in closet!

3. Details

IMG_3182 IMG_3179 IMG_3181 IMG_3214

You could tell that the collection was not only being well promoted but it was actually well made! The tassel details were unique, there was laser cutwork stitched on the fabric, the embroidery was all done by hand and it was flawless!

4. Silver jewellery

IMG_3203

Matsya is on it's way to become a one-stop shop for brides to-be as well as the bridesmaids with a silver jewellery collection in-store! The pieces are stunning and the designs are unique. Encrusted with pearls and moonstones, these pieces have an understated beauty and charm about them that you just can't resist. Lucky us to get one pair for ourselves in the goodie bag!!

5. The enthusiasm

The infectious enthusiasm among the hosts and the guests could almost outshine the collection, only the garments had way more mirror-work ;)
Everyone was enchanted with the beauty of the collection and it was more than evident on their faces.

Elephant in the Room

{Outfit - Ridhi Bansal, Earrings - Vintage store in Milan, Sunglasses - Style Fiesta, Shoes - Intoto}

With wedding invitations piling up and festivals like Diwali and Dussehra right around the corner, I figured why not style some indianwear attires and give you guys outfit ideas on how to dress for such occasions. I am a big fan of dressing up in Indianwear and giving the look a modern twist. This itch in particular led me to style this beautiful anarkali jacket with dhoti pants and a bandeau crop top. Originally, this anarkali jacket by Ridhi Bansal closes up till waist and it comes with a matching churidar and a bright pink dupatta. What I love most about this style is the cute elephant motifs! I mean, how cute are the pink and silver baby elephants!! The quirkiness of the motif with the traditional silhouette stands out in this outfit. Stay tuned for more looks by Ridhi Bansal as this label is my new find and I am in love with the pretty designs.

Moment of Fame! [Nitya Bajaj for JOFW]

I have been bombarding my Instagram with all these runway pictures and if you don't know already, us bloggers (Delhi based) walked the ramp as showstoppers for Nitya Bajaj! Crazy cool huh!? I still can't seem to come to terms with the fact that I was actually on the ramp and was not dying out of nervousness and fainting on the runway. In fact, it all went smoothly, and if I may dare to say, it was fun also!

When Nitya called me asking me to be one of the showstoppers, I was flattered and more than happy to walk the runway. The fittings and rehearsals went well too, it was the time between the fittings and the actual show that I panicked. I was sure something or other will go wrong and I will ruin the show for Nitya. But the moment we all stepped out and crowd started cheering and the paparazzi started flashing, we were completely ourselves, no jittery legs, no nervous smiles, nothing. We were all genuinely ourselves, having fun on the ramp, having a lil tea party :D

The clothes were just cherries on top, so pretty that I wanted to take the whole collection home! My dress featured a red raw silk bodice with pearls all over it and a raw silk full midi skirt. I had never worn something like this before and was quite excited to try this new silhouette! It looked fab and the pictures speak for themselves!

Front page ya'll!!!

Designer Diggs: Elitista by Jyotsna Kapoor

{Jacket - Elitista by Jyotsna Kapoor, Spaghetti top/Shoes/Rings/Earrings - Forever 21, Skirt - Koovs, Bag - H&M, Belt - Promod}

As the Monsoon is upon us, there is a nip in the air and the wind is suddenly cooler at night. At times like these, I like to carry a light jacket to drape over my shoulders when the sun bids goodbye. This jacket from Elitista by Jyotsna Kapoor has been my recent favorite and I have been pairing it with so many outfits, it's not even funny! The beautiful golden work in the front and the draped lines at the back, and the finishing, all these features have me drooling over this beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

I wanted to keep the jacket as the focus of the look so I paired it with an all black outfit and red pout (Click HERE for the Red Pout makeup breakdown). The spaghetti top and the skirt formed a faux bodycon dress and to make sure that my waist did not vanish in all that black, I added a tan belt to emphasize on the waist area. The shoes were bold and edgy to go with the feel of the jacket. The jacket gives out a strong vibe, you need to be confident enough to pull it off. And the shoes complements the jacket and the red pout adds to the whole theme. This outfit is very strong and statement making, and I felt very confident and good about myself in general that day. I think it's the silhouette of the outfit, it flatters the body in the best way possible.

This jacket was initially a part of an Anarkali I wore to my friend's Sangeet ceremony. The fit and the finish of the whole attire was exemplary! I have never been so impressed with a relatively new designer's work. Jyotsna Kapoor might be new to this industry but she knows what she is doing when it comes to custom fitting the garments and giving the best finishing. You can turn the whole attire inside out and there won't be one single seam out in the open, it's almost like you can wear it inside out and nobody will really notice!

About the designer:
Jyotsna Kapoor launched her label Elitista almost one year ago. Strongly focused on providing the best Indianwear designs at the most affordable prices along with the best fit and finish, she drove herself with passion for creating. She has come a long way in a short span of time and all the credit goes to her hard work and creative designs. Her USP, the draped sarees along with fully gold work backless blouses (same work as you see in my jacket) are most hot-selling products today. Her anarkali suits are also highly in demand because of the quality, fit and finish. There are very few designers in the industry who focus on these details, most I have seen compromise on the quality of the fabric and never gives perfect finishing. But I was very very impressed with Jyotsna Kapoor, the quality of fabric she used, the fit of the dress and the finishings, the customer service was impeccable too. Couldn't have been happier with my purchase!

Designer Diggs | Grecian Maxi by Supriya Gupta

{Maxi Dress - Supriya Gupta, Cuff - H&M, Shoes/Midi Rings - Forever 21, Sunglasses - Paperlillie}

Mirror Mirror on the wall, who's the brightest of them all!

In Summers, the few keywords almost every fashionista swears by are Maxi dresses, whites, brights and golds. Now, you can imagine my delight over this particular maxi dress. It's a summer dream come true! Packed with a beautiful gold neckline, punch of fuschia and beautiful Grecian drapes makes this attire just as perfect for a cocktail night as it would a romantic dinner date. The attention to details like the little quilled circular touch to the waist belt or the draped hem making up for the absence of slits while adding a graceful design element vouches for the viability of the dress.

I chose to keep the maxi as the focus of the whole attire and kept accessories to the minimum by adding a gold cuff and few midi rings. The shoes had to be nude as I didn't wanted any other color fighting for attention in this look. And the sunglasses had gold accents because why the hell not! This outfit is probably my personal favorite so far, it's glamorous, it's bright and it will for sure turn heads. As they say, 'Go bright or go home!'. This maxi is truly a prized possession and for the price, it's a steal! The collection comes out soon, so make sure you grab one before they sell out.

About the designer:
Supriya Gupta launched her label out of her passion for Indian wear, Sarees in particular. Her ability to conform to the requirements of her clients is what makes her stand out from the crowd. Unique designs, new concepts, skilled craftsmanship and her ability to deliver the most fresh color combinations ever won us over. If you are impressed by this maxi (which is a piece from her new collection),wait till you see her impeccable sarees. She has something to offer to everyone, be it a high school girl preparing for her farewell, a friend attending her best friend's wedding or a new age woman going for her kitty party!
