A classic cover-up which has withstood the test of time and spells sophistication with an urban vibe could be a summarised definition of a trench coat. In my opinion, it is the best fashion invention, a wonder garment in its own really. The timeless appeal of it's silhouette and the ease of pairing it with almost anything and everything in your wardrobe is what makes it sort of an unsung hero of classic styling.

It doesn't really matter what you wear underneath because the trench coat does all the talking and makes that great first impression. I personally own at least 7 different styles of this staple coat in different lengths and colors. With the weather and it's inconsistencies, sometime warm, cold, windy, rainy and sometimes all in one day, we are all left with the puzzling question: what to wear? And more often than not, my answer lies in the little section of my wardrobe where all these trenchs have taken up residence in.

I styled my most classic trench coat in a recent post in collaboration with ASUS. While styling a trench coat, you don't need to go by any rule book really. It's all about belting if you want a sophisticated look or you can wear it undone or tied artistically behind your back for a more relaxed urban look. The lengths can be a bit tricky though as in what you pair it with. A knee length trench coat is ideal for almost anything while a shorter length would be paired best with denims or shorter skirts/dresses. But no matter the length, always let the trench be the focus of your outfit, unless you plan to take it off once you reach your destination.

Here, I styled this olive trench coat in all it's glory and let it be the only focus of the look. This is just an example of how a trench can easily be styled as an outfit itself (told you it's a wonder garment, didn't I?). This look could be just as perfect for business meetings as it would be for brunch or shopping. The versatility of this garment is multifold and I would make that more clear in upcoming posts where I will style it in multiple ways as the weather gets colder.

Stay tuned!
